Lens vehemently opposed the move, calling it a relegation of the league to accommodate European ambitions, while the league organiser (LFP) justified the decision as being in the wider interests of French football to protect UEFA coefficient rankings. PSG adviser Luis Campos framed the postponement as vital for France's European representation, stating it helps maintain the country's fifth-place coefficient ranking, which secures four Champions League spots. Lens faces a punishing run from April 17th, playing Toulouse in Ligue 1, then the French Cup semifinals, before facing Brest on April 24th, a Friday fixture offering less rest than a weekend game.
