Former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has joined Burnley on a contract for the remainder of the season, the Championship club announced Sunday. The 39-year-old forward arrives after a stint with Cremonese in Serie A last season, where the Italian side suffered relegation to Serie B. Vardy is a club legend at Leicester, where he spent over a decade and famously captained the side to the 2015-2016 Premier League title, an FA Cup triumph, and a Champions League quarterfinal run. He also claimed the Premier League Golden Boot in 2019-20. Vardy departed Leicester at the end of the 2024-25 season, which ended in relegation and a subsequent drop to League One.

In a club statement, Vardy expressed enthusiasm about the move, praising Burnley's history and passionate fanbase. Head coach Nicky Hayen welcomed the veteran's experience and leadership, stating he can make a significant impact on their campaign. Burnley, relegated from the Premier League last term, currently sit bottom of the Championship table without a win in their first five matches.
