West Ham and Mexico midfielder Edson Álvarez has categorically denied an accusation that he was involved in an alleged kidnapping. The accusation was made by movie producer Juan José López Ordóñez, who alleged that he was kidnapped in 2024 by the family of Álvarez's former father-in-law Jonathan Toache Bedolla, and that Álvarez himself was an accomplice. Álvarez stated he is considering legal action against López Ordóñez.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Álvarez said he rejects any attempt to associate his name with events unrelated to him. He noted that his name and image have been used to generate media attention around a situation he has no connection to. He emphasized that serious accusations must be supported by evidence and presented before authorities, not through sensational media.

Álvarez added that if anyone believes they have evidence of wrongdoing, they should present it to prosecutors and courts. He instructed his legal team to evaluate and pursue appropriate legal action against anyone making or disseminating false allegations. He clarified that while he will not confirm or deny claims about third parties, he has nothing to do with the events being reported.
