The Montreal Canadiens signed coach Martin St. Louis to a multiyear extension, the team announced Monday. St. Louis, 51, has guided the Canadiens to consecutive playoff berths, including last year's Eastern Conference final. He has a 163-155-47 record entering his sixth season. "Marty has done a terrific job leading our young team," general manager Kent Hughes said.

Chris Kreider signed a one-year contract Saturday. "Pretty amazing, pretty iconic logo," Kreider said. "It's not just a sport here. It's a religion." Kreider gained villain status in 2014 when he crashed into Carey Price. Montreal was aggressive, and St. Louis was a big influence; they played together with the New York Rangers.

St. Louis will coach a former teammate for the first time. "We need a little more experience; he checks that box," St. Louis said. "Net-front guy, checks that box."
