PATRIOTS QB Drake Maye committed his third turnover late in the third quarter of Sunday's 35-6 loss to the Jaguars. Head coach Mike Vrabel hugged Maye on the sideline as the quarterback prepared to return. The defending AFC champions fell to 1-2 ahead of Sunday's game against the 3-0 Bills.

Maye has six interceptions and a lost fumble through three games in coordinator Josh McDaniels' offense. He called the unit "unacceptable" after it ranked last in the NFL in points per game (9.7). Vrabel used a golf analogy, saying the team tries to "choke the life out of every single play" and needs to relax.

The Patriots have scored the third-fewest points through three games by a reigning conference champion in the Super Bowl era. Their 0.97 points per drive mark the worst since the 2021 Jets, and their minus-0.21 EPA per play is the worst since the 2023 Jets.

Teammates say the issues extend beyond Maye. Receiver Romeo Doubs cited weak fundamentals, while the offense has navigated injuries to No. 1 receiver A.J. Brown, who is out for at least two games on injured reserve.
