Nikola Jokic left no doubt on media day about his future with the Denver Nuggets as he enters the final guaranteed year of his contract. "I'm going to sign next year," Jokic said Monday. "If they want me," he added.

There's little doubt from Denver's side that it will. The three-time MVP has a player option for next season and was eligible to negotiate a four-year, $278 million extension this offseason. By waiting to sign, Jokic will be able to ink a five-year, $359.5 million contract next summer.

Jokic said he has talked with the leadership team in Denver, including executive vice president of basketball operations Ben Tenzer, executive vice president of player personnel John Wallace and governor Josh Kroenke. "They know my opinion, and I was being more than open about it, and hopefully they trust me," Jokic said.

The Nuggets are coming off a disappointing postseason finish, losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round. Denver has yet to make it past the second round since winning the franchise's first championship in 2023. The end of the roster has been reshuffled, with restricted free agent Peyton Watson getting moved in a deal to Cleveland. To supplement the bench, the Nuggets re-signed Spencer Jones and added guard Tyus Jones and center Marvin Bagley III.
