Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has discussed the WNBA's soon-to-be-vacant commissioner job with NBA commissioner Adam Silver after he reached out to her.

"I have talked to Adam Silver a couple times, and I think he's a great guy," Cunningham said Monday during the women's FIBA World Cup break. "He was very knowledgeable and full of wisdom... I think he's going to put someone in place who really wants to take our league to another level."

Current commissioner Cathy Engelbert recently announced she will retire at the end of the year. Cunningham wants a unifier who values players. "I really do think that you need a commissioner who is players-first, who wants a relationship with their players," she said. "That doesn't mean we're always going to get along... But if you have that open line of communication and that respect level, I think that it just feels different."

Cunningham also wants someone committed to growth. "You continue to have a growth mindset," she said. "You are playing the best basketball, you're in the best league in the entire world."
