The Baltimore Orioles placed versatile infielder Blaze Alexander on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with lower back discomfort after he exited Tuesday's game with back spasms. Baltimore recalled Jeremiah Jackson from Triple-A Norfolk, and he started at second base against Cleveland. Alexander is batting .303 with four homers and 31 RBI in 93 games this season.

Shortstop Gunnar Henderson remains day-to-day after fouling a pitch off his left knee Tuesday. The knee locked up as he ran toward second base, forcing his removal. Manager Craig Albernaz said Henderson is "pretty banged up." Despite a .219 average, Henderson ranks second on the team with 22 home runs and 57 RBI.

Jackson Holliday started at shortstop Wednesday. The Orioles have lost seven of eight games and are fading in the AL wild-card race with 16 games remaining.
