Toney and new quarterback Darian Mensah, a high-profile transfer from Duke, connected early on a 48-yard pass and dominated throughout, with Mensah finishing 27-of-30 for 401 yards and five touchdowns—setting Miami debut records for both passing yards and touchdowns.

Both players were removed in the third quarter as the game was already decided. Cooper Barkate, also a Duke transfer, added four catches for 67 yards and a score. Toney praised the fans who traveled across the country to support the team, saying he wanted them to 'feel me, touch my hand.' Mensah's performance followed a standout season at Duke where he threw for 3,973 yards and 34 touchdowns, earning ACC honors.
