The iPhone 18 Pro offers Apple's latest features, but it is only a meaningful upgrade if coming from a model several years old. Engadget notes that in most cases, users would be better off saving money and sticking with their current device. The two phones look nearly identical, with the 18 Pro available in new deep Burgundy and light Glacial colors, though it is a few grams heavier.

While the Dynamic Island is slightly smaller due to a new infrared sensor, the change is subtle and does not alter daily usage. The iPhone 17 Pro remains a highly capable device. Despite the iPhone 18 Pro featuring the A20 Pro chip built on 2-nanometer architecture with up to 40 percent better graphics performance, normal tasks like streaming music or opening Instagram show little difference.

The A19 Pro still handles everyday use with ease. Camera upgrades are the most significant change, as the 18 Pro introduces a wide-angle camera with a variable aperture lens for improved low-light performance and adjustable depth of field. However, the ultra-wide and telephoto sensors remain the same as the 17 Pro, and new photographic styles are expected to arrive on older models via software update.

Both devices offer the same Apple Intelligence and Siri AI capabilities, meaning the 17 Pro already provides the latest software features without the need for an upgrade.
