Tesla is finally committing to an official reveal date for its second-gen Roadster, scheduled for October 10, nearly a decade after the prototype's initial unveiling. Despite the company's poor track record with previously-promised dates, the announcement is expected to stick this time. In August, The Information reported that Tesla would launch its Roadster soon, particularly with the ability to fly.

The company's website features a countdown to the Roadster reveal, teased by an image hinting at cold-gas thrusters for the Space X model. While a flying car sounds appealing, it could be about as impressive as the Cybertruck's Wade Mode. Waiting customers have been left in the dark since the prototype's initial reveal in 2017.

At that time, Tesla claimed the updated electric sports car would go from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds, exceed 250 mph top speed, and offer more than 600 miles of range. The base model Roadster then started at $200,000, while a Founder's Edition variant went for $250,000. However, some who preordered the Roadster for $50,000 have already canceled, including Open AI's CEO Sam Altman and tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee.
