Netflix has added Codenames Party to its growing library of party games for subscribers. The word association game, which began as a tabletop title, now offers a new Party Mode alongside classic team play.

Players can join by scanning a QR code and playing on mobile devices, with no extra hardware needed. The classic mode involves two teams with a Spymaster giving clues, while a new Case Studies mode has all players guessing from pre-made word sets.

Party Mode removes teams entirely. Each player creates a clue for their own set of eight words from a shared pool of 16. Points are earned by guessing others' words and having your own correctly identified.

Netflix continues to expand its family-friendly game offerings, and Codenames Party is a notable addition. Engadget staff have enjoyed playing the game at team hangouts.
