Starting with iOS 27.2, developers can offer users a way to move data and settings from an existing app to its designated replacement. This system-managed migration flow moves app data and supported settings before deleting the old app.

Based on iOS 27.2 beta 1 code, users will see an alert: "The developer recommends moving your existing app data and settings to the new app. iPhone can do this for you now, before you start using your new app." Users can choose "Move App Data and Settings" or "Don't Move Anything." If declined, a second warning notes some preferences may need reconfiguration.

The feature is limited to cases where a developer replaces its own app with a designated successor. iOS can migrate system-level settings including privacy, location, Health authorizations, notification settings, per-app Do Not Disturb and Focus, app locking, CarPlay icon order, widget layouts, Live Activities, accessory access, Launch Services preferences, fonts, telephony data, and Secure Element services.
