The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that while a lettuce sample from Taylor Farms initially tested positive for cyclospora, subsequent re-testing indicated a "false positive." As of Sunday, the FDA confirmed no other positive sample results for the parasite.

Despite this, the FDA continues to investigate Taylor Farms as a potential significant contributor to the cyclospora outbreak, which has affected thousands across the US. The agency has "notified Taylor Farms and continues working with the firm to ensure the product implicated in this outbreak has been removed from the market." Taylor Farms voluntarily recalled iceberg lettuce from central Mexico out of an abundance of caution and reported the FDA had apologized for the initial misidentification.

The outbreak, linked to shredded iceberg lettuce at Taco Bell locations in five states, has led to approximately 100 hospitalizations. Cyclosporiasis is caused by a parasite typically transmitted through contaminated food or water and is difficult to track due to delayed symptom onset and diagnosis.
