Trump carried her district with 57% of the vote in 2024, but Salazar’s message signals internal party tension. Outside Florida, Democrats target four Texas districts with large Latino populations redrawn to favor Republicans.

Salazar faces Democratic challenger Eliott Rodríguez, a Cuban American former broadcast journalist, whose strategist accused her of hypocrisy for voting for ICE funding while criticizing its use. Salazar has long advocated for a bipartisan bill offering legal status and work permits—without citizenship—to non-criminal immigrants, putting her at odds with the MAGA wing. Far-right Republicans, including Representative Brandon Gill of Texas, have denounced her bill as mass amnesty, sparking public feuds during congressional recesses.
