At least seven people were shot, one fatally, in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon, officials said. Two police officers were among the victims, according to the authorities. The shooting occurred near 15 East Grant Street, an apartment building about half a block from the Minneapolis Convention Center, in the Loring Park neighborhood.

City officials urged people to avoid the area. Aerial footage from KARE-TV showed a large police presence at the intersection. Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota said on X that his "public safety team is responding to a shooting that took place downtown Minneapolis this afternoon," adding that state officials are supporting local law enforcement.

In September 2025, two men were killed inside the same apartment building, ambushed by a third man after getting off an elevator, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune. Minneapolis has been on edge after federal agents shot and killed two protesters, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, in separate incidents in January. Scenes of unrest followed. This is a developing story.
