President Trump plans to campaign for dozens of Republicans before the Nov. 3 midterm election, but some in battleground states are distancing themselves due to his unpopularity. Among nine key Senate races, four candidates welcome or are open to Trump campaigning, two said no, and three were unclear.

Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska intends to campaign with Trump. Michael Whatley of North Carolina, who recently campaigned with Trump, welcomes more joint events. Senator Jon Husted of Ohio is set for a rally with Trump in Vandalia. Ken Paxton of Texas is open to further campaigning with Trump.

Senator Susan Collins of Maine has long ruled out campaigning with Trump, saying, "I'm happy running my own campaign." Two other candidates also declined to campaign with the president.

These nine races are rated as the most competitive by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, including tossups and seats leaning toward either party.
