Tech bosses including Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, Elon Musk, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg will meet Donald Trump on Tuesday to discuss artificial intelligence risks, as the White House resists stricter regulation. The White House lunch will include executives from Open AI, Google, Nvidia, Microsoft and Palantir, plus House Speaker Mike Johnson. The meeting follows Amodei and other AI leaders’ push for an industry-wide slowdown in frontier model development, which Trump has dismissed as a “hoax” and “sick conspiracy,” claiming it would benefit China.

Trump vowed not to “hinder or stifle” AI growth, saying, “We’re leading now over China and everyone else, and I want to keep it that way.” His stance conflicts with some Maga allies, including Steve Bannon, who called for a slowdown, and Republican candidates advocating new laws. Johnson said the goal is to “strike the right balance” on safety, avoiding hyper-regulation to not “lose the race to China.” In a rare show of unity, Amodei, Open AI’s Sam Altman and Elon Musk called for a slowdown and more coordination. Amodei, previously derided by Trump as a “leftwing nut job,” dined with him Sunday, with Trump calling him “very highly respected.” Tuesday’s meeting includes Greg Brockman, Sundar Pichai, Jensen Huang, Satya Nadella and Alex Karp.
