Heavy rain disrupted train services in Japan on Sunday as tropical cyclone Dujuan approached, with East Japan Railway Co. warning of possible suspensions and delays from Sunday evening through Tuesday morning in the greater Tokyo area. The operator had already suspended operations on some network sections due to heavy rain Sunday morning.

Dujuan was located south of Japan moving northwest at 10 kilometers per hour (6 miles per hour) as of 9 a.m. local time Sunday, with maximum sustained winds of 35 meters per second near its center, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The storm will be the 10th tropical cyclone to affect Japan since June, marking a busier-than-usual season fueled by the El Niño weather pattern.

The cyclone is forecast to come closest to Japan on Monday, during a five-day holiday running through Sept. 23. Yusuke Maekawa reported on the developing disruptions for Bloomberg Markets.
