Bain Capital's Tech Opportunities fund is taking a minority stake in Kahua, an AI enterprise construction platform based in Georgia, valuing the company at more than $1 billion. Bain is investing around $250 million, making it the largest outside investor in Kahua. The company's valuation has risen from approximately $100 million in its 2019 funding round.

Kahua's CEO Scott Unger stated that the partnership will support growth through continued investment in artificial intelligence, product innovation, and talent development. Founded by Unger in 2009 after leaving Autodesk, Kahua provides a project management information system for large construction and design operations. The company serves over 2,500 customers across industries, supporting more than $400 billion in capital programs, including projects for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, New York City School Construction Authority, and JFK Airport.

Bain Capital, which manages about $225 billion in assets, has been researching the construction technology market for over three years, focusing on the more than $4 billion total addressable market Kahua operates in. Philip Meicler, a partner at Bain Capital Tech Opportunities, highlighted that investing in construction is a focus area for the firm, noting the market's early tech adoption stage and the demonstrable ROI from helping businesses save costs or accelerate schedules.
