Jim McGuinness will remain as Donegal senior football manager for the 2027 season, marking his fourth year in his second stint with the Ulster county. Donegal GAA confirmed the news on social media on Monday evening, stating that following a County Committee meeting, McGuinness was appointed for a one-year term, while Mickey McCann will continue as senior hurling manager for two more years, a role he has held since 2018.

During his second term, McGuinness has guided Donegal to back-to-back Ulster titles in 2024 and 2025, as well as an All-Ireland final appearance in 2025. The 53-year-old also led the team to a Football League Division One final victory over Kerry in March this year. However, the championship season ended in disappointment, with a defeat to Down in the Ulster SFC quarter-finals and a loss to Dublin after extra-time in the All-Ireland series Round 3.

McGuinness, who originally led Donegal to an All-Ireland title in 2012 during his first spell, had returned on a three-year deal with an option for a fourth year, which has now been exercised.
