Napoli confirmed that Scott McTominay's heart surgery was a complete success. The 29-year-old Scotland midfielder underwent a minimally invasive ablation procedure at Spire Manchester Hospital on Tuesday morning to correct a mild benign arrhythmia. McTominay was substituted in the 56th minute of Napoli's 2-1 Serie A defeat by Como on 30 August, leading to the discovery of his heart condition.

The club stated that he will rest for two weeks before resuming training, with expectations of returning to action after the international break in early October. Following the announcement, McTominay posted on Instagram: "See you soon Napoli. I won't take long." His absence means he will miss Scotland's upcoming Nations League fixtures under new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli, including matches against Slovenia, North Macedonia, and Switzerland scheduled for late September and early October.

According to the NHS, an arrhythmia occurs when the heart beats too quickly, too slowly, or irregularly. The British Heart Foundation explains that a cardiac ablation uses heat or cold energy to create tiny scars in the heart to block faulty signals and restore a normal heartbeat.
