The original 'This Is Anfield' sign from Liverpool's stadium tunnel has sold for £115,000 at auction, nearly eight times its estimated price. The sign, which hung above the tunnel at Anfield, was commissioned by legendary manager Bill Shankly in 1972 after he rejected 'Welcome To Anfield' as too friendly. It was removed in the 1970s and given to former club youth player Ronald Wilson, whose family displayed it in an Isle of Man hotel for over 20 years.

Auctioneer David Convery of Budds called the sale 'a very memorable auction', noting the sign's unique connection to the club's history. The final price of £149,500 including commission set a record for a UK sports stadium interior sign. The sign was present during Liverpool's first two European Cup victories in 1977 and 1978, and was pictured with players like Alan Hansen, Kenny Dalglish, and Frank McGarvey.

The new owner's identity remains unknown.
