Athletic Club forward Inaki Williams has announced his retirement from international duty with Ghana. The 32-year-old scored two goals in 28 caps for the Black Stars after making his debut in September 2022.

He featured for the West Africans at the 2022 and 2026 Fifa World Cups and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Williams appeared twice at this year's World Cup as Ghana were knocked out in the last 32 by Colombia.

"I feel the time has come to bring my journey with the Ghana national team to an end," he said. "I leave happy, proud and with the peace of mind of knowing that I gave everything every time I wore this shirt."

Born in Bilbao to Ghanaian parents, Williams chose Ghana after playing for Spain at youth level and in a 2016 friendly. His brother Nico represents Spain. The announcement comes a week after Carlos Queiroz was confirmed as Ghana coach for the 2027 Afcon.
