TiVo has notified customers that its popular Skip Mode feature, which allows one-button commercial skipping, will end on November 2, 2026. The current automatic skip functionality will be replaced with a paid add-on called Premium Auto Commercial Skip. Starting with that date, new recordings will no longer receive free skip data markers, though existing recordings with Skip Mode markers will continue to work.

Users will still be able to manually skip commercials using the 30-second skip button or fast-forward controls, methods that have existed for over two decades. TiVo will offer a 30-day free trial of the new Premium Auto Commercial Skip service beginning November 2, after which customers wanting automatic or one-button skip capability will need to pay an additional monthly fee. The company has not yet disclosed pricing details.

This shift reflects TiVo's parent company Xperi's move away from hardware manufacturing toward smart-TV operating systems and advertising technology. Automatic commercial skipping has been a key differentiator for TiVo from cable boxes and competing DVRs. Many longtime users have relied on Skip Mode as a primary reason to maintain subscriptions despite declining live-TV viewing.

TiVo will provide additional information about device compatibility, supported recordings, and pricing before the November 2 cutoff.
