On the 31st August, a developer reported an imitation of their data wrangling software on GitHub, using their product name and logo without permission. A colleague scanned the Mac .dmg file with virustotal.com and found multiple malware warnings. Using Isobuster, they discovered the background image was altered to encourage users to ignore malware warnings.

The developer reported this additional information on the 10th September. As of the 23rd September, they had received no response from GitHub support beyond the initial automated email—23 days without a reply. The developer expressed frustration, calling the situation "pisspoor" and considering a DMCA takedown request.

They noted that only those trying to avoid paying for a license for Easy Data Transform would likely download the malicious file. An update on 24-Sep-2026 stated that GitHub removed the page approximately 10 minutes after the post appeared on the Hacker News front page, suggesting that public attention prompted action.
