Scandinavia, trained by Aidan O'Brien, is the headline act on Day 1 of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe meeting at Paris Longchamp. The superstar stayer bids for a sixth Group 1 success in the Prix du Cadran, heading a field of 10. Unbeaten in his past eight starts, he has recorded five Group 1 wins and looks hard to oppose as he steps up in distance once again.
Stablemate Queenstown, ridden by Wayne Lordan, represents the main threat. The grey returned with a Group 3 victory at the Curragh in August before finishing second to Scandinavia in the Irish St Leger. Third in this race last year, Queenstown could hit the frame again.
Elsewhere, George Scott's defending champion Caballo De Mar bounces back to form after a Doncaster Cup success, while Double Major is the pick of the bigger prices. In the Prix de Royallieu, classy fillies Sunly and Wardaah lock horns in a field of 11. Sunly, ridden by Christophe Soumillon, could outclass her rivals, while Wardaah took the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster on her last start.
