FIFA has accused European football chiefs of 'harassment' against Gianni Infantino and attempting to influence the presidential election by spreading misinformation over the World Cup venture.

The claims appear in a Miami court filing obtained by Sky News, seeking to block UEFA's request for evidence related to the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise [FFE] proposal, which aimed to sell shares in the World Cup to private investors.

FIFA's lawyers argue that UEFA's application was made in bad faith and for the purpose of harassment, rejecting suggestions that Mr Infantino sought personal financial benefit from the FFE scheme. UEFA has withdrawn support for Infantino ahead of the March 2027 election but has not yet proposed a rival candidate.

The filing questions the timing of UEFA's legal action, noting the November 18 candidate submission deadline, and urges the court to reject any attempt to influence FIFA's presidential election.
