After the Red Sox' playoff elimination by the Yankees, players questioned analytics' role in decisions. Willson Contreras criticized reliance on data over talent. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and manager Chad Tracy pushed back, stating no franchise-wide directive exists on analytics use.
Breslow emphasized scouts' value remains unchanged. Tracy affirmed in-game decisions are his alone, citing information access like all teams. He met with Contreras to address concerns.
Craig Breslow also noted Roman Anthony's hand injury recovery is ongoing, with surgery not currently indicated.
