Primate Labs has launched Geekbench 7, the latest iteration of its popular benchmarking suite for CPU and GPU performance. The new version features a redesigned multi-core benchmark intended to more accurately reflect real-world application performance, ensuring scores are a more relevant measure of a device's capabilities for actual tasks.

Geekbench 7 also introduces a revamped GPU benchmark that emphasizes machine learning and content creation, incorporating tests for face tracking, real-time video filters, AI-powered image upscaling, and background blurring for video conferencing. New GPU tests include RAW image processing, LUT-based video color grading, path tracing, and fluid simulation, with support for APIs like CUDA, OpenCL, Vulkan, and Metal.

The update incorporates more challenging datasets and varied workloads, including enhanced file compression, PDF viewing, and developer/image processing tests. New media workloads focus on audio and video encoding/decoding, with specific tests for speech recognition (Whisper), AV1, and Opus. A Game Physics workload utilizes the Jolt Physics engine, and an expanded Photo Editor test includes more realistic edits, supporting formats like JPEG XL and DNG. Geekbench 7 is available on iOS, macOS, and other platforms, with the Pro version offered at a 20 percent discount until August 6.
