Cristiano Ronaldo has called for lifetime stadium bans for Al-Taawoun fans who chanted Diogo Jota's name at Ruben Neves during a Saudi Pro League match. The incident occurred before Al-Hilal's 6-0 victory on Saturday. Jota, a close friend and former Wolves and Portugal teammate of Neves, died in a car crash in Spain last July at age 28 alongside his brother Andre Silva.

Footage shows Neves sarcastically applauding the fans before pointing to the sky. Ronaldo, who plays for Al-Nassr, wrote on social media: "The league must take action and punish this kind of fan behaviour. This is no longer football, and there have to be limits." Neves, who now wears Portugal's number 21 shirt in Jota's memory and has a tattoo honoring him, told reporters: "I just hope they don't go to pray later after what they did." Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for Liverpool after joining from Wolves in 2020, and netted 14 goals in 49 games for Portugal.
