The Seattle Mariners placed right-hander Emerson Hancock on the 15-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to August 29, due to a strained left adductor. Hancock sustained the injury during Friday's start against the Toronto Blue Jays, when he slid to field Nathan Lukes' grounder and reached to tag the leaping outfielder. Despite the injury, Hancock remained in the game, allowing eight hits in five innings, including two home runs.

Hancock, who holds a 7-8 record with a 3.57 ERA in 25 starts this season, will miss upcoming action. Manager Dan Wilson indicated that right-hander Bryce Miller could start when Hancock's rotation turn comes up against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.

To bolster the rotation, the Mariners recalled right-hander Nick Davila from Triple-A Tacoma. Davila allowed three runs in one inning during Sunday's 7-0 loss to the Blue Jays, marking Seattle's fourth consecutive defeat.
