WhatsApp's Scam Alert feature is now available to beta users on Android, according to findings by WABeta Info on beta version 2.26.34.1. The feature, officially detailed by Meta over two weeks ago, warns users if an incoming message from an unknown sender appears to be a scam, without notifying the sender. When a warning appears, users can mark the sender as trusted or block and report them.

Marking a chat as trusted also allows sharing the last five messages with WhatsApp to improve accuracy. Scam Alert must be manually enabled in Settings > Account and uses an on-device machine learning model. Meta emphasized that no message content leaves the device for classification or is auto-reported, preserving end-to-end encryption.

The feature is optional and user-controlled, designed to complement existing security measures while helping users identify potential scams.
