Xbox has unveiled Mythic Achievements, its answer to Sony's platinum trophies for PlayStation. These are earned when players "complete all original achievements for a game," serving as a badge of honor for fully completing a title. Achievements added later via DLC or updates don't impact Mythic status, and the company says "it's yours to keep." They are also retroactive, so fully completed games from the past will automatically receive Mythic status.

Support extends back to Xbox 360 titles. The new Gaming tab in profiles displays this data, featuring milestones and a "heroic frame" for each Mythic Achievement. There's a social component, allowing users to check friends' Gaming tabs to see if they completed games like Gears of War 2. A progress bar on each game's achievement list shows how close you are to Mythic status.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma teased this program earlier this year. Microsoft has long had an achievements system, but this adds a tiered component. Currently, the program is only available to Xbox Insiders, who test unreleased features for free. This follows other Insider tests, like a service creating digital versions of physical games and a free, ad-supported cloud gaming platform.
