YouTube's recommendation algorithm relies on your watch history and engagement signals to suggest content you'll enjoy. If your recommendations feel irrelevant, retraining the algorithm takes time but is achievable through deliberate actions.

First, ensure watch history is enabled. Navigate to your profile icon, select Google Account, then Data & privacy, and confirm YouTube History is turned on. Check the Auto-delete setting to manage how long your data persists.

Next, actively train the algorithm. Watch videos fully, hit Like, subscribe to preferred creators, and leave comments. Search for topics you enjoy and click relevant results. For unwanted content, use Dislike, the three-dot menu to mark Not interested, or Don't recommend channel. Unsubscribe from inactive channels and hide YouTube Shorts if needed.

Minimize incorrect signals by removing unwanted watch history. Use the X button in search suggestions and delete videos from the History playlist. Prevent future issues by setting up separate accounts for family members using shared devices like iPads or smart TVs.
