Industry insiders have denied rumors that Sony will delay its transition to an all-digital console ecosystem. The rumors surfaced following internal chatter at Microsoft about a '100% physical' Xbox Helix console. Richard Browne, formerly of Sony and Psygnosis, stated there was no discussion of changing Sony's plans at the recent Gamescom expo.

He added that publishers are following guidance for a discless future by 2028, and that Microsoft's Project Helix will likely be digital as well. Notable leaker NateTheHate2 echoed Browne's comments, stating there is nothing circulating to suggest Sony is reconsidering its strategy. However, NateTheHate2 did not comment on whether Microsoft's Helix console will include a disc drive.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently avoided the question in an interview, despite being open about other Project Helix details.
