Five-time Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar will not race again this season after suffering a neck fracture at the Vuelta a Espana. The injury, sustained on the race's eighth stage, requires surgery and forces the Slovenian rider to miss the World Championships in Montreal and European Championships in Ljubljana. Pogacar, who crashed out while leading the race, also broke his collarbone and suffered a concussion.

The 27-year-old aimed to complete the set of Grand Tour titles but will now focus on recovery. UAE Team Emirates-XRG announced he has extended his contract until 2032, ruling him out until next year.
