Chelsea have signed Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa for £7.5m, marking the eighth deal between the two clubs since 2022. The 33-year-old World Cup winner joined on a three-year deal after previously playing for Arsenal and helping Villa win the Europa League. "I'm delighted to be at this football club," Martinez said. "Coming to Chelsea, for me and my family, was an easy decision to make and I'm just over the moon."

The transfer follows Nicolas Jackson's move to Villa last week, continuing a busy summer that includes four deals between the clubs. Morgan Rogers completed a £117m move to Chelsea, while Alejandro Garnacho joined Villa on loan with a conditional obligation to buy worth around £43m. Since 2022, Chelsea have paid Villa £163.5m for players, with Villa spending £102.5m on Chelsea players.

The relationship began after Chelsea's owners, Blue Co, took control in 2022. Co-owner Behdad Eghbali and Villa owner Nassef Sawiris have developed a close working relationship, communicating directly over transfer business across multiple windows.
