Team Europe captain Anna Nordqvist admitted that juggling her playing duties with Solheim Cup captaincy during the qualification campaign has been tougher than expected. She ruled herself out of being a playing‑captain at the AIG Women’s Open, the final qualification event, despite showing encouraging form at the Amundi Evian Championship and wanting a strong finish to her own major season. The 39‑year‑old split her focus between the tournament and calls to prospective European wildcard hopes, making eight phone calls on Friday night and then battling a third‑round 77 before rallying to a final‑round 68.

Nordqvist said, “I think it’s hard to put it in words how hard it’s been… I felt like as soon as I came off the course, it was just so much stuff about Solheim Cup.” She also noted practical matters and mental fatigue from the job. She planned to finalise her 12‑player line‑up on Sunday evening, hoping to keep the process fair and avoid over‑worrying about other players’ scores.

She remains uncertain about the final team after watching whether Chiara Tamburlini would secure the second automatic spot via the Ladies European Tour’s Solheim Cup rankings.
