The two sons of PC Matthew Blades, killed in an A66 crash near Middlesbrough, will lead out Manchester United as match mascots for Sunday's Premier League game against Ipswich at Old Trafford. United paid tribute to Blades in the match programme, calling him a "proud Red" and "devoted family man". His widow and children will attend the game.

Blades and PC Tom Clough died in a head-on collision on 22 August between their police car and a vehicle travelling the wrong way on the A66. All seven occupants of both vehicles perished. United expressed "great sadness" upon learning of the officers' deaths.

A minute's applause for Blades and Clough was held before Middlesbrough's match at Riverside Stadium, with photos displayed on screen. Tributes also gathered at Seaton Carew FC's game. Blades had coached at both Middlesbrough and Hartlepool.

The crash investigation has led to 24 arrests.
