Valve confirmed the Steam Controller ships globally on May 4, priced at $99 in the U.S., €99 in the EU, £85 in the UK, and $149 in Canada and Australia. The gamepad targets PCs, laptops, the Steam Deck, Steam Machines and the Steam Frame VR headset. Beyond standard buttons, Valve added dual trackpads, a gyro, Grip Sense and four rear grip buttons, all configurable via Steam Input.

Valve highlighted its magnetic thumbsticks, built on TMR technology, promising smoother feel, faster response and longer life. Capacitive touch layers enable motion‑based input, while a magnetic puck serves as both wireless transmitter and charging dock. Trackpads are billed as a practical mouse substitute for shooters, puzzles and legacy PC titles, with gyro support and Grip Sense offering on‑the‑fly sensitivity tweaks.

At launch, the controller arrives pre‑loaded with thousands of community‑crafted profiles, giving popular games immediate, optimized mappings. That approach could tighten Steam’s hardware‑software loop, nudging developers toward native support rather than workarounds. For gamers, a single peripheral now promises to bridge mouse‑keyboard and console experiences on PC, consoles and VR across Valve’s expanding product line today.
