Valve has streamlined Steam's store tags by adding 17 new categories and removing 28 outdated ones. New additions include "Bullet Heaven" for games like Vampire Survivors, "Desktop Companion" for partial-screen games, and "Cleaning" for titles like Power Wash Simulator. The company aims to make filtering more effective for users seeking specific game types amid the platform's massive catalog.

Valve removed tags like NSFW and Mature for being too generic, while others like LEGO and 3D Vision were dropped due to IP concerns. Some tags were eliminated for being subjective ("Well-Written," "Masterpiece") or underused ("Drama," "Ambient"). Franchise pages will now handle IP-specific discoverability, while more descriptive tags replace generic ones to improve search functionality.

Data reveals Singleplayer as the most-used tag, appearing on 62% of Steam games, followed by Indie (53%), Action, Casual, and Adventure. Valve also renamed several tags for clarity, changing "Clicker" to "Incremental" and "Conversation" to "Dialogue Heavy." The platform now offers more precise ways to navigate its massive library of over 98,000 games across diverse genres.
