Developer DALOAR and publisher Daedalic Entertainment have set an April 8, 2026 release date for The Occultist, a first-person horror adventure that emphasizes psychological tension over traditional scares. The game is now available for pre-order on PlayStation 5 and Xbox. Players can also download a demo in multiple languages including English, Spanish, French, Japanese, and Chinese.

Rather than relying on jump scares or graphic violence, the developers build fear through environmental storytelling and atmospheric design. The Dev Diary reveals how subtle details—ambient sounds, distant noises, and strategic silence—create sustained dread while exploring the game's mysterious island setting. This approach lets players' imaginations amplify the horror experience.

The game blends first-person exploration with slow-burn psychological horror, focusing on themes of vulnerability and the moral weight of helping restless spirits find peace. Art Director Kevin Flórez and Environment Artist David Álvarez explain how they crafted an unsettling atmosphere where helping the dead often comes at a terrible cost to the living. The developers prioritize emotional impact over cheap thrills.
