Resident Evil 5 and 6 remakes are seemingly confirmed following comments by Capcom executive Jun Takeuchi. Initially reported as having no plans, Takeuchi revealed Capcom is developing the series in two tracks: numbered titles for the ongoing story and a remake series for classic experiences. The remake series is intended to eventually catch up with modern numbered titles.
Recent successes with older franchises appear to have led Capcom to change its mind and commit to more Resident Evil remakes. Takeuchi noted that the reappearance of old themes, locales, and names in recent titles like Village and Requiem are preparations for when the two series overlap. The appearance of Umbrella, Spencer, and the return of Raccoon City are specifically in preparation for a crossover.
Village and Requiem director Capcom stated they began gradually preparing for this setup since Resident Evil Village, responding to user expectations after fans analyzed hidden development thoughts.
