A soft mod enabling Linux on PS5 now supports consoles running firmware up to version 6.02, a significant jump from earlier, more restrictive versions. Beyond the firmware expansion, the project has integrated working drivers for the console's built-in WLAN chip. This development removes a major connectivity hurdle, making the Linux experience on Sony's hardware far more practical and less tethered to wired connections for network access.

The developer, Andy Nguyen, confirms that loading Linux on newer firmware versions requires a different exploit. Crucially, there is no intention to support future firmware updates, so this represents a fixed window of opportunity.
