The Norwegian company launched the browser after persistent requests from Linux users across gaming subreddits, Discord, and forums. This release delivers performance controls, gaming integrations, and customization options to Linux gamers and developers.

Opera GX includes GX Control for managing CPU, RAM, and network usage, plus built-in Twitch and Discord access in the sidebar. Users can personalize their browser with themes, sounds, and visual effects through GX Mods. The browser also features ad and tracker blocking, plus an optional VPN with zero-log policy audited by Deloitte.

Opera GX follows European privacy standards with GDPR compliance and European data center hosting, including facilities in Iceland. The browser supports Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and OpenSUSE distributions through .deb and .rpm packages, with Flatpak support coming. Linux users join over 34 million Opera GX users worldwide since its 2019 launch.
