MSI unveils next‑gen GPU cooling and safety tech at Computex

At Computex 2026, MSI unveiled a suite of thermal and power innovations aimed at next‑gen graphics cards. Highlights include spiral‑groove heatpipes, a diamond‑composite thermal pad, a diamond‑copper baseplate and a fan built from ultra‑thin 0.8 mm metal blades. The company also introduced the MSI SafeGuard system, which monitors current and voltage, issues alerts, and throttles power on fault detection, targeting lower temps during 4K gaming.

MSI demonstrated the tech on two prototypes. The RTX 5090 SUPRIM Safeguard pairs the new server‑grade eFUSE with a gate‑based reset, delivering roughly 200 ns short‑circuit response and allowing reuse after a fault. Integrated software adds smart 12 V connector detection, real‑time current monitoring and multiple warning channels. The firmware also logs incidents for post‑analysis.

The second board, labeled RTX 5090 Gaming Trio Next‑Gen, incorporates the same cooling suite—spiral‑groove heatpipes, diamond‑copper baseplate and ultra‑thin metal fan—to boost heat transfer and maintain blade rigidity at high RPM. While MSI is unlikely to ship these exact models, the concepts signal a shift toward more robust thermal management and fault‑tolerant power delivery for future flagship GPUs. Manufacturers will likely adopt similar tech.
