Montage Technology's New RCD06 Hits 9200 MT/s for AI Servers

Montage Technology is sampling its Gen 6 Registering Clock Driver chip, known as the RCD06, to major customers. This hardware targets next-generation RDIMMs, aiming to increase reliability and speed for high-end server platforms. The chip arrives as cloud and AI workloads push memory bandwidth to its limits.

Performance jumps to 9200 MT/s, marking a 15% speed increase over the previous generation. To maintain stability at these speeds, the RCD06 uses a dual-channel independent architecture. This design allows sub-channels to operate separately with their own parity checking, which prevents interference between channels during heavy data transfers.

Signal integrity is handled via integrated Continuous Time Linear Equalization and a low-jitter Phase-Locked Loop. These components ensure stable clock distribution across the memory module. President Stephen Tai says the company is collaborating with CPU vendors and memory manufacturers to bring this DDR5 technology to the global market at scale.
