Micron Technology has completed its acquisition of Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation's P5 site in Tongluo, Taiwan, marking a significant expansion of the company's DRAM manufacturing capabilities. The facility, located approximately 15 miles from Micron's Taichung campus, includes 300,000 square feet of existing 300mm cleanroom space and will support production of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and other advanced DRAM products.

This strategic move comes as Micron seeks to capitalize on surging AI-driven demand for memory solutions. The company plans to begin retrofitting the cleanroom immediately, with product shipments expected to start in fiscal 2028. Micron is also planning a second facility of comparable scale at the site, with construction set to begin by the end of fiscal 2026, adding approximately 270,000 square feet of cleanroom space.

The acquisition represents Micron's commitment to strengthening its position in the competitive memory market, where AI applications are driving unprecedented demand for high-performance DRAM. By expanding its manufacturing footprint in Taiwan's world-class semiconductor ecosystem, Micron aims to enhance its ability to deliver cutting-edge memory solutions to customers while maintaining its technological leadership in an increasingly AI-centric computing landscape.
