Lexar THOR II DDR5 Kits Use CXMT Chips

Lexar is launching new THOR II RGB DDR5 memory kits utilizing CXMT (ChangXin Memory Technologies) chips, marking a significant speed increase over previous CXMT-based modules. These new kits will offer speeds of 7200 MT/s and 7600 MT/s, both with CL38 timings at 1.4 V, a notable jump from the prior 6000 MT/s limit for CXMT memory.

The 32 GB dual-channel configurations will come with two 16 GB modules. Evidence for the 7600 MT/s speed has surfaced via CPU-Z data for a module identified as LD5U16G76C38BV. This development indicates CXMT is closing the performance gap with established manufacturers like Samsung and SK Hynix.

While not reaching the 8000 MT/s demonstrated by MSI on AMD platforms, Lexar's 7600 MT/s offering at CL38 is competitive within its segment. The increasing adoption of CXMT chips, even with potential U.S. government negotiations for Apple to use them, suggests a shift in the global memory supply chain. Pricing and release dates for the THOR II kits remain unannounced.
